March 21, 2025  Lake Como, Italy and a night of Jazz

Lake Como is a popular destination point for tourists and locals. Here is a link for details about how the lake was formed, and the history surrounding it right up to modern times.

We toured the western leg of the lake (the shape is a capitol Y turned upside down) by boat. We departed from Cernobbio, just north of the city of Como, and got off at Bellagio for an explore.

The dock in Cernobbio, waiting for the boat.

The boat. Much smaller than a ferry to Mackinac Island.

Scenes from the boat.

We ate in town, explored some sites, did a little shopping and, of course, found some gelato.

Narrow "streets".

Stairs everywhere!

Yum!

We had some laughs posing for the camera down a deserted corridor. In fact, some American girls approached us, thinking there was something cool to see, and of course, there was....Us!😜

Reviewing the pictures. (I wasn't allowed to include some of the most embarrassing pictures of our party, but you can see by Grace's laugh, they were hilarious!)

After our fun, we caught the return boat to Cernobbio and a funny thing happened. The boat workers weren't announcing the stops, but our fearless leader, Rod, was making note of them. Our stop for Cernobbio came up, the boat slowed, we stood up from our seats, and before we could make our way to the side of the boat for departure, the boat sped up and away it went! Apparently, we should have moved up to the side of the boat earlier, before the actual stop indicating that there were people needing to get off at Cernobbio, and they would have come to a complete stop and lowered the gangplank. After Rod searched out an English speaking worker, we were instructed to ride the boat to the next stop, Como, get off, get back in line, and ride the boat back to Cernobbio. The stops were 8 minutes apart, so we didn't lose too much time.  Paul has come to coin the term "side quest" whenever this happens. We have had a few!
Waiting for our return boat. Nearly all the trees are pruned in this way, especially in the old cities.

Waiting for the return boat and enjoying the views.

Where is that boat?

Smooth return journey. We haven't missed our stop yet.

We missed our stop! We have disembarked in Como, gotten back in line, and are waiting for our 8 minute trip back to Cernobbio.

In line for the return boat.

The close of the night was a Jazz concert back at the villa. Every month, the villa hosts musical entertainment, sells tickets, and drinks. They move the furniture and set up tables. This month, the selection was Jazz.

We had a very full day!
