April 23, 2025 A Beach on the Atlantic Ocean
Twenty five miles west of us, the Mondego River, which we can see from our apartment in Coimbra, empties into the Atlantic Ocean. We took a day trip to visit the city of Figueira da Foz, the port city that has grown up there. The weather was beautiful and some of us got a little too much sun, nothing painful, just our tender Michigan skin receiving it's first taste of summer!
We Uber-ed to the train station for a one hour ride and arrived in Figueira around 11:00am. A 40 minute walk got us to the shore of the Atlantic. Frolicking and shenanigans ensued until we had to dry off and walk back to the train station. After dinner, we went out for ice cream.

Getting close to the water. Sailboat masts in the distance. |

Navel stuff, but we didn't check it out. |
You're never too old for a slide down a hand rail! |
Every town has a soccer field. |
A well maintained boardwalk out to the beach. |
A look back at town. |
Look at the size of this beach!! |
Shoes are off and the "dogs" are out! (as the kids say) |
Looks a little like Lake Michigan? |
They started out dry. |
And got more and more frisky!
They are pretty wet by now! |
Their dry clothes are a total loss! |
The 40 minute walk back to the train station helped dry them out. |
A relaxing drive home. |
A really good, marvelous, fantastic day just being together! Kids never outgrow a trip to the beach and splashing in the waves! Life is good!
