May 20, 2025   Hiking and Skipping Stones on Loch Lomond

After our big day in Edinburgh, we enjoyed a recovery day by returning to Loch Lomond for leisurely  hiking and skipping stones. It was a surprise to me that I never got around to teaching my kids how to skip stones in all these years, and for those children that weren't with us on this portion of the trip, I owe you a lesson. Stone skipping is one of those talents that only come from frequent practice and since this was their first day, don't judge!

Loch Lomond with its clear water.

This is not a stone.

Scoping out the water from a high place.

Taking it all in.

Let's start with Clare. What a sport! She is always willing to try new things!

The fleece is off and it's is time to try it again.

The wind up!

Eye on the water!

Cock the leg for the big step!

Was that two or three skips?! Great job, Clare!

Paul caught on pretty quick! With a little practice, he might be as good as Grandpa someday!

The wind-up.....

The throw!

Aaron's turn.

Classic form.

He was NOT aiming for the duck!

Aaron is my rock thrower and he talked Paul into trying a little bigger rock.

This guy was the rock skipping champ of our party. The following video was good but not his best. We missed getting that throw on video.

We continued exploring along the water's edge until it was impassable, then we made our way to the trail that followed the edge of the loch, sometimes in the woods, sometimes along a field.

Evidence that I was on this trip!

Sometimes along the loch.

Sometimes through the woods.

Sometimes along a field.

Loch Lomond is beautiful!
