March 12, 2025  Clare's 15th Birthday!  

We tried to make the day special even though we were far from home, family and friends. We explored a shopping area and found a pastry/gelato shop and had treats. We also found a clothing store and walked around in it a bit, then moved on to a dollar store-looking business and picked up a few things. Later, we watched the movie "Interstellar" after dinner. 

Rod can sniff out a pastry shop miles away!

Happy birthday Clare! You turned 8 in Rome and 15 in Tuscany.  You're practically an Italian citizen!

 March 5-6, 2025.  We have safely arrived in Tuscany! It was a total of 24 hours of continuous traveling from door to door (Allendale to Montelopio). The views and weather are worth it!  The temperatures are highs in the upper 60s during the day and lows in the 40s at night.  The "Core 4" (that's shorthand for Rod, Katie, Paul, and Clare) playing Euchre in the Chicago airport during our 5 hour layover.  March 8, 2025  Today we explored the town of Peccioli, Italy which has its origins dating back to medieval times. The town's most notable historical feature is the Pieve di San Verano church built around the 11th-12th century.  We had our first gelato of the trip while in Peccioli. Yum!
