April 5, 2025    Take a Hike!


We took a 10 minute drive out of town for our first hike in the countryside. It reminded us of our time in southern Spain seven years ago. The hills are rocky and arid.

Far off in the distance between the two mountains is a view of the Mediterranean.

A view of the "trail". It was kinda rough. The car is parked down along the road.

Another look at the rocky trail. The weather was a gorgeous 67 degrees!

We passed a dung beetle.

He was pretty big!

Collin made friends with a millipede.

Seeing Vence from above. Vence is larger than the historic walled city part. 

The trail continued up, but I rested my pounding heart.

Here's where we stopped the hike and turned around.

The yellow dot is the car. We were sweaty when we got back to it.

We came home tired and unmotivated for anything else besides dinner, Mass, and watching more Avatar The Last Airbender. (Not the blue people, but an animated series that's a great family show.)

 March 5-6, 2025.  We have safely arrived in Tuscany! It was a total of 24 hours of continuous traveling from door to door (Allendale to Montelopio). The views and weather are worth it!  The temperatures are highs in the upper 60s during the day and lows in the 40s at night.  The "Core 4" (that's shorthand for Rod, Katie, Paul, and Clare) playing Euchre in the Chicago airport during our 5 hour layover.  March 8, 2025  Today we explored the town of Peccioli, Italy which has its origins dating back to medieval times. The town's most notable historical feature is the Pieve di San Verano church built around the 11th-12th century.  We had our first gelato of the trip while in Peccioli. Yum!
